Airplanes Runway

airplanes runway
How do I solve this Physics equation? What equation do I use? An airplane lands and starts down the runway at?

An airplane lands and starts down the runway at a southwest velocity of 48 m/s. What constant acceleration allows it to come to a stop in 1.1 km?

You need to use your kinematic equations, but to figure out which one look at the values you’re given/asked to find. You have:
vi = 48 m/s
vf = 0 m/s
d = 1.1 km
a = ?

So the equation you want is:
vf^2 = vi^2 +2ad
2ad = vf^2 – vi^2
a = (vf^2 – vi^2)/2d

Before subbing in your values, make sure they all have comparable units (ie, change the 1.1 km to 1100 m)

So,
a = (0 – 48^2)/2(1100)
a = -2304/2200
a= -1.05 m/s/s
