Was my intuition that 55 y/o never been married man would be incapable of having a mature relationship?
I went out with this guy for three months and had a great time with him even though some of the things he did seemed a little strange. When I told him that I suspected I got a staph infection from him he totally dumped me. When we first started going out I wondered why he never got married. Then as I got to know him better I realized he was sort of childish, but still charming. For example, he has a home that is piled to the rafters with kitschy stuff: cartoon character dolls, about 300 matchbox cars, airplanes hanging from the ceiling, rubber ducks in the bathtub. The rest of the decor was bad (for someone with a good income like him). It was all old and very old-fashioned grampa-esque. He also had several cars he was working on in his yard and kept the sci-fi channel on 24 hours a day. I am obsessing on this; he said he loved me. How could he dump me so fast. Does he not have room in his life (or his house) for a mature relationship?
I think your intuition was dead on! And the fact that he dumped you so fast, was actually a blessing. You would have had a miserable future with him.
